Momentious day

 "Morning daddy, yup, yup, pancakes, chocolate, yes, right, bye' (Ben was at work).

In the veg garden I planted some potatoes in March and had not actually got around to digging them up, I thought that they would need to be thrown away, but the wondrous mother nature did her magic and many of the plants were growing again so with a chicken in the fridge for roast chicken tonight we went out and dug some spuds - to my surprise they were pretty good and made great crispy roasties - now I just need to get out there and dig the rest of the patch!

Quite a momentous day for several reasons....  Yesterday Ben took Ruby out on the balance bike we borrowed, he tied her bike to his so he could pull Ruby along and he said that all of a sudden Ruby got her balance and was being pulled along without falling off.  This morning when we fed the goat Ruby was shooting down the hill on the bike so this afternoon we took off her stabilisers and sure enough with a few wobbly starts she cracked riding her bike.  She was so pleased and had such a great big smile on her face, she wanted to do again and again and
again, show the neighbours and dad too!  Needless to say that much of the afternoon was spent on the bike.

The other event today was the lighting of the wood burner upstairs; Ben has been working over the weekend to get the fire installed so that we can get it warm to help speed up the drying time for the walls.  After the kids had gone to bed we both headed up the ladder, Ben put all the windows back on and then opened the door of the
wood burner and lit the fire - something that he has not done for over 4 years.  Fingers crossed that it would draw well (I had faith in my man as everything he does, he does well and he is Mr Fire)!  We then sat there and watched 'caveman's telly' for a while - we turned off all the lights and just watched the flame dance before us.

Now Rivan wants to try too - he will just have to wait until Christmas for his new bike, I bet he will be without his stabilisers fairly soon too! The fire was lovely and gave such a wonderful atmosphere - it has been a long time. Better than any TV too
