Family afternoon

Having watched Hugh Fernley Whittingstall last night - all about bread, I decided to have another go at making bread by hand instead of the bread machine.  The kids like helping kneed the dough and when it was ready into the oven it went - the results were pretty good - thanks Hugh.

 

 

Ruby woke with a squeaky voice - Rivan had kindly given her his cold - fingers crossed that this is the last one of the year.  A quiet morning and a good sleep saw her in good spirits to enjoy the afternoon with her Auntie Jane and cousin David.  We had a lovely afternoon and Ruby spent most of it playing with David - he chased her on the trampoline and carried her on his shoulders for most of our little walk. 

 We all dined together - meatballs and spaghetti with everyone enjoying the extended family meal and the freshly baked loaf.  Stories were read and Jane and David bathed the kids and we bid them goodnight as we put the kids to bed.  I cherish the times that we spend with other family members - they do not happen often and when they do they are very special times.  David is a lovely young man and has mentioned that he might go into teaching primary school children - he would make a wonderful teacher!  We look forward to more visits later in the year and spending more time with special people.

Hey cosmic Em, Hugh FW a great inspiration here too - just wish I had a bit more time and a bigger kitchen to experiment a bit more - it will come of that I am promised. I think that this time of year is the busiest in the garden - seedlings to tend, ground to prepare and grass to keep on top of. Have lots in the greenhouse coming on (yellow courgettes, pumpkins, sweet corn, cucumbers, tomatoes, salad, herbs and even some flowers too - just loving the fact that the kids are getting the gardening bug also!

Would just love love love to see you here one day, let me know if the landy does fancy a trip as even if our house is not ready (i.e. we do not have a spare room) our neighbour has room and is delighted to put our friends and family up. Hope that you are happy and enjoying the lighter evenings and not working too hard. Will email properly soon - sending you hugs and kisses back. xxx

Hey Rae and family,
Really enjoyed reading about your perfect family day :)

Super impressed by the photo of the bread too, it looks amazing and i'm sure it tasted even better! Hugh FW was also my inspiration for having a go at making bread from scratch. I'm loving it so much and find it so much easier than I imagined... I am almost convinced to re-home the bread maker!

So, how does your garden grow? I am sure by now you have been busy planting and judging from your long list of goodies you wrote on my blog, I suspect it will take up quite some time!
I spent a busy but happy weekend in my garden here doing much the same :)

Lovely to see you all looking so happy and well and clearly enjoying life. Hope one day we can drive our Landy across the waters and come and see you again.
