In the middle of nowhere you will find....

In the middle of nowhere you will find…… a museum dedicated to the life that used to be.  Tucked away in the countryside there is a beautiful little house which has been converted into a museum explaining all about the way we used to live.  Back then you did not just pop out to the shops to go and get some flour to make bread, or even just pop to the shop to get a loaf of bread, but instead you grew the crop, harvested it, ground it and finally made it into food.  It made me realise just how much we take for granted and how easy our life is now - we are doing our thing trying to live lightly on the planet and live a simple life, but in comparison it is a very extravagant life that we are privileged enough to live.  

         

The kids ran around and looked at some of the displays, Ruby was captivated by a room on the top floor that had been transformed into an old style classroom - we had fun role playing with her being the teacher and then us being the teacher.  Rivan decided that the steps were far more interesting so took off and I followed, leaving Ruby and Ben 'schooling' together.

 

The centre of the little hamlet was closed off and stalls were set up with all sorts of stuff ranging from items made from honey wax to someone making paper by hand.  In the garden there was a workshop that we all went round to watch - how to build a bug hotel!  Sadly they had not moved the workshop into the shade and although we would have loved to stay and see how it finished, the kids had had enough of the heat and Rivan just said 'bye" and started walking off to find some shade.  It did give me an idea for our summer project - to build a bug hotel - with a little research on the internet and some creative thinking I believe that it would be a lovely project for me and the kids to complete this summer…..
