Decision time this morning, to got to the toy library and see all of our friends (many of mine are returning to work either at the end of this week or the start of next) or to take the kids out for a day trip? Decision made by Ruby - her first words when she woke "are we going to see the kangaroo's today?'. I had mentioned last night to her that we might be going to an animal park and she had her heart set on seeing the animals so with a picnic packed we headed off to the park about an hour away. Just as we got into the car, it started raining and the skies looked pretty grey but the forecast on the computer looked pretty good so we took our chance.
Don't always trust the directions from google - that was what struck me as we headed off and were sent on a route that added a good half and hour to our journey - that combined with me missing a turning meant that we arrived slightly later than planned but hey ho. We finally found the park - after being directed down many country lanes and Ruby asking 'are you sure this is the right way? I don't see any animals yet. We pulled up and excitedly paid and went into the park. I am not a big fan of zoo's, it is great that we are able to see animals that normally live in foreign lands but I am always torn by the poor conditions they are kept in - small spaces and sad eyes, but this park was brilliant. There was lots of space for all the animals who all looked healthy and happy, in conditions that were not that far from their natural habitat. A safe place to let the kids run around and explore and what with it being the end of the school holidays there were very few people there.
Animals that I had not seen before included porcupines and mohair sheep, in my past life in the bedding industry we had often used mohair in our fillings for the beds, boasted about the luxury fillings in our marketing, but I had not actually seen these comical animals before - they were definitely my favourite! Cheeky fluffy sheep which ate
from the children's hands, tickling their palms as they took the grass.
Two fantastic climbing areas provided fun for us all. There are few pictures of me and the kids on the blog so we took the opportunity to take some pictures of us fooling around. Ruby took a few pictures with my camera - she was very pleased with her results and it was great to have some pictures of us on our last outing before the return of school.
