Story telling with a bit of magic thrown in

Story telling to toddlers and young children is a special talent – I remember as a child loving Jackanory with the plethora of storytellers and fabulous books chosen by the presenters, I am glad that Jackanory junior is still available now on Cbeebies for our children to enjoy.  Our kids love their bed time story and it is a lovely time with precious moments spent with our loved ones before they enter their world of dreams.

Our afternoon was spent at the local library who had arranged a story telling session. Our host was a brilliant man telling us a great story about father Christmas, a room full of children captivated by his animated face as he took us on the magical adventure as father Christmas went on holiday to the coast and all that happened to him along the way. There must have been about 40 people there, children ranging from 18 months to 4 years.

The story teller himself had a wonderful face which you just had to watch – his eyes kind and exciting, his expressions helping the little minds to visualise every aspect of his story and he started and ended his story by getting the children to make butterflies with their hands which fluttered and floated round the room, their hands then turned into a snail, then into a cup which after 1, 2 3 “cheers” were drunk from and the magic of the story would then stay with all the children. A very special afternoon enjoyed by all.
