My little miss blueberry
After almost a week of rain – the right type of rain too, the back garden is slowly changing back into a lawn and not a crispy brown carpet, the verges are brimming with life and the veg garden has gone a little mad – the purslane has taken over the garden so that the chickens and pigs are enjoying a daily bucket full of it to keep it slightly under control. It is good to see the rain and we have enjoyed the coolness that it has bought.
This morning, the skies were less grey so we decided to make a dash to the fruit farm and get some strawberries and blueberries to take down to mums when we leave tomorrow. Ruby is very excited about seeing her granny again and keeps asking how many more sleeps until we go? The weather held and we enjoyed a windy morning picking blueberries and strawberries, Ruby was a champion picker and collected a punet of blueberries all by herself.
Rivan decided to stay put in the pushchair and watch the ladies work while asking for his container to be filled with blueberries for him to eat! There were not many picking today at the fruit farm, plenty of fruit and strawberries that were just huge thanks to the rain so it did not take us long to get what we wanted
Day two of Rivan deciding that he does not want to sleep after lunch - he asks to go to bed after he has finished his lunch and then 20 minutes later is screaming and crying in his cot to get out - I think he thinks he is missing out on things. I told him he could get up but was not allowed to cry and be grumpy all afternoon. I wonder if this is him finished napping during the day or just a phase that he is going through? He is getting 12 hours sleep most nights and this should be enough for him, I am not that worried if afternoon naps are a thing of the past for him as it frees up our afternoons and means that we can make the most of our time. I am not sure how crèche will feel about this - we shall see tomorrow.
Our tent arrived this lunchtime too - I was amazed at how quickly we received it and how cheap it was to get it sent - we just need to check that it all works within 14 days so this is a job for us to do when we get back from our trip down south.
The afternoon was spent together - taking a walk and feeding the animals and then Ben took the afternoon off to play with the kids in the caravan whilst I replanted some of the many lettuce seeds that have now decided to germinate and start growing - that is the thing about lettuce - I find that it is hard to succession sow to ensure that a regular supply is available at all times, I am currently buying them at the moment as after all the dry weather lots of the spinach has gone to seed and I find myself lacking at the dinner table.
