Digging up mole hills

Doctors this morning for Rivan who slept most of the night last night and woke a little happier this morning - I did half think about cancelling the doctors appointment but then thought that if he does have an ear infection this needs to be treated. I have never actually been to the Dr's without at least a 40 minute delay and today was no exception. Rivan is quite happy waiting in the surgery as there are lots of chairs to climb on and a little area for children so the time passes quite quickly and I get a chance to look through the gardening magazines. After lots of air sucked through teeth (by the doctor), she informed me that he had a chest infection, an ear infection and has lost weight. So we left with a prescription for a course of antibiotics - I hate giving the kids these but he has only had one course since he was born and that was this time last year for an ear infection too.

The weather was glorious this afternoon and we decided to head out into the veg garden as we had rather a large number of mole hills that needed flattening - a job for the kids to help with - there is nothing like getting your hands dirty, finding worms and enjoying the outdoors. 

So in a wheelbarrow made for two, the kids snacking on chicken food (I will never get the appeal to animal food - they both crunch on chicken grain, cat food and dry bread for the goat!) we head out into the veg garden. 

The kids were a great help with the mole hills and after they had lost interest we went to see the chickens, we have started going in the chicken run so that they get used to us as both kids want to stroke the chickens and at the moment there is only one who is happy to be picked up, this should change over time if they get used to us.  The caravan is going to be great for them this year, Rivan is now able to enter and exit on his own and they both play quite happily leaving me a little time to continue weeding and clearing the beds ready for spring planting. 

I think that one of our next projects will be to "jolly" up the inside of the caravan - something that the kids can do over the next few months.  A lovely afternoon with my two little garden elves!
